Event receives defibrillator from Westfield Health

Sheffield Fans Derby (SFD) and Sheffield Trinity Football Club are delighted to have received a defibrillator from Sheffield based health and wellbeing company, Westfield Health.

SFD organisers and nine of the Sheffield Trinity players undertook a two hour training session with John Spikings, a Community Defibrillation Trainer from the Yorkshire Ambulance Service, prior to receiving the defibrillator. The session consisted of training on Automatic External Defibrillators (AED’s) and Basic Life Support (BLS). The players in attendance had a varied background with regards to first aid, from no previous training to others having undertaken first aid courses. All agreed it was interesting and worthwhile.

We are extremely grateful to Westfield Health for providing us with a defibrillator, which will provide an additional resource with regards to First Aid on match days and at the clubs training sessions. Sheffield Fans Derby will also use it at their annual event. There has been a rise in heart incidents in both professional and amateur football and this is one more tool to make football safer both for the teams taking part and spectators.
